These studies apply the HiPIMS method, a rapidly developing and cutting-edge sputtering deposition technique, to the deposition of titanium oxide films with various structures; they also involve the creation of high-performance optical, electrical, and thermal switches utilizing metal-semiconductor phase transitions mediated by the hydrogenation/dehydrogenation reactions of rare earth elements; and the elucidation of these hydrogenation/dehydrogenation reaction mechanisms through kinetic analysis.
These research findings have contributed to improving energy efficiency in various advanced devices and structural materials, and have attracted attention as fundamental research for realizing a sustainable society.

MRM2025 attracted over 1,700 registered participants from approximately 40 countries, and featured around 1,600 research presentations on a wide range of materials. All award-winning research was carefully discussed and selected by organizers of prominent domestic and international symposia. While the field of materials science has long been described as being on the eve of a revolution due to advancements in innovative experimental techniques, first-principles calculations, AI, and informatics, this conference reinforced the feeling that we are indeed in the midst of this revolution. These research findings were recognized as contributing to the innovative development of materials science and materials engineering under these circumstances.
