Our graduate school accepts international students on scholarships (research students) offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of the Japanese government.
Only research students recommended by embassies are accepted; no university recommendations are accepted.
Regarding Japanese Government Scholarship Students (Research Students) Recommended by Embassies
Please check the information provided by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General in your country (hereinafter referred to as "overseas diplomatic mission"). (Schedules may vary slightly depending on the country.)
(1) The process of becoming a government-sponsored international student
Applicants are selected as government-sponsored international students after undergoing selection processes at each overseas diplomatic mission, receiving provisional acceptance from our university, and then undergoing selection by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Please refer to the MEXT application guidelines for details.
(※Cannot be received concurrently with other scholarships).
(2) Scholarship amount, etc.
Graduate school: 146,000-148,000 yen (including regional surcharge), plus other tuition fees during enrollment and return travel expenses.
(3) Payment period
Up to the minimum period of study for the regular course

Aoyama Gakuin University Graduate School Researcher Information
(1) Information on researchers affiliated with Aoyama Gakuin University can be found below.
(2) When applying for a Letter of Acceptance, there is no need to contact the faculty member of your choice in advance.
(3) There are no restrictions on contacting the faculty member of your choice personally; however, the International Center cannot provide applicants with contact information for faculty members of our university.

If you would like a letter of acceptance from Aoyama Gakuin University
After passing the first selection round conducted by the overseas diplomatic mission, please send the following documents by email to the International Center Aoyama Gakuin University. For further details, please refer to the application guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
(1) A copy of the certificate of passing the first selection stage issued by the Japanese embassy or consulate abroad.
(2) The following application documents (copies) submitted to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate at the time of application:
*Please submit copies of all documents that have been stamped with a confirmation seal by the overseas diplomatic mission and returned to you by the mission.
*Please be sure to check the application documents and guidelines provided by the overseas diplomatic missions/Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

② Specialization field and research plan (as prescribed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)
③ Academic transcript from your university
④ Graduation (completion) certificate or degree certificate from the university attended
*Those expected to graduate (complete their studies) must submit a certificate of expected graduation (completion).
⑤ A letter of recommendation from the head of the university you are currently enrolled in or the last university you attended, or from your homeroom teacher.
⑥ Health certificate
⑦ Abstract of the paper, etc. (※Only if submitted to an overseas diplomatic mission)
⑧ Language proficiency certificate (only if submitted to an overseas diplomatic mission)
⑨ Letter of recommendation from your current supervisor (only if submitting to an overseas diplomatic mission)
⑩ Photographs of the work or electronic recordings of the performance (only if submitted to an overseas diplomatic mission)

Important Notices and Where to Send Documents

(1) The deadline for submitting applications for provisional acceptance for the 2027 fiscal year is September 1, 2026 (Japan time). No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
(2) It will take approximately two weeks to one month to decide whether or not to accept your application. During the university's summer break (early August to mid-September), it will take longer than usual to make a decision, so please be aware of this in advance.
(3) The results of the review will be sent to you by email from the relevant graduate school. If you are accepted, a "Letter of Acceptance" will be sent to you as an email attachment.

Becoming a Graduate Student/Visiting Researcher
Graduate Research Student
We accept foreign nationals who are currently enrolled in a master's program or have already received a master's degree from a foreign university as foreign master's program research students (for up to one year). We also accept foreign nationals who are currently enrolled in a doctoral program from a foreign university or who have dropped out of a doctoral program after three years or more as foreign doctoral program research students (for up to one year). Note: The graduate school research student system is a system in which applicants consult with their supervisor, who then consults with 天美影视.
Visiting Researcher
We accept individuals (regardless of nationality) who hold a master's or doctoral degree, or a professional degree, and who have the ability to carry out sufficient educational and research activities as visiting researchers (for a single academic year of up to one year).
