Responses in the event of a disaster or emergency
Regarding earthquakes and other disasters
Japan is an earthquake-prone country. Let's be prepared for emergencies on a regular basis. Also, in the event of an emergency, use social media to contact family in your home country and give the contact information of your close friends in Japan.
It's also a good idea to have an emergency bag at home that contains non-perishable food, drinking water, valuables, clothing, radio, flashlight, and medications.
If you are on campus and a major earthquake occurs, please follow the instructions of the Staff. For information on evacuation locations in the event of a disaster, please refer to the Aoyama Gakuin University Disaster Card, the student life information app "Raifuin Aoyama", and the notices in the classroom.
If an earthquake occurs
1. Ensure your safety: Get under a table or desk to ensure your safety.
2. Secure an exit: Open windows and doors to secure an exit.
3. Check for fire and put out the fire as soon as possible: If you are using fire, wait until the shaking has subsided before putting it out. If a fire breaks out, remain calm and put out the fire as soon as possible.
4. Get accurate information from the radio and television.
5. Check the safety of electricity and gas: If evacuation is necessary, turn off the electricity breaker, turn off the gas main valve, and lock the doors before evacuating. If you feel shaking outside, do not go near high walls or block walls. Also, do not walk under buildings with many glass windows.
Disaster Prevention
Japan is a country where earthquakes occur frequently. It is important to obtain the latest disaster prevention information and prepare for them on a regular basis. On the Disaster Prevention Center website below, you can watch videos about disaster prevention and apply for a disaster prevention experience. We recommend that you participate in a disaster prevention experience at least once.
Theft and Loss
1. Phone number to call the police: 110 (nationwide)
If something is stolen from your home or you are robbed, contact the police immediately. If you lose something important, go to the nearest police box or police station and submit a "Theft Report" or "Lost Property Report" to have a document issued certifying the theft or loss.
2. If your bank cash card, passbook, credit card, or seal is stolen
Contact your bank immediately and have them block the withdrawal of money from your account.
3. If you lose your passport
If your passport is stolen or lost, you must report the theft or loss to the police and obtain a certificate. Then, take the certificate to the embassy or consulate of your home country and apply for a reissue of your passport.
Please note that you will need your passport when applying for a renewal of your period of stay, but if you are unable to reissue your passport in time, you may be able to apply for a renewal with your residence card and a reissue application receipt issued by your embassy. For more information, please contact the Immigration Bureau directly.
4. If you lose your residence card
Go to the nearest police station, tell them you have lost your residence card, and obtain a "Certificate of Lost Property." Take that certificate, your passport, and a photo to the Immigration Bureau and apply for a reissue of your residence card. Usually, the card is issued on the same day. If you have plans to renew your residence status or carry out other procedures, please do so after the card is reissued.
You must always carry your residence card with you, so if you find out that you have lost it, you must apply for a new one as soon as possible. If you have had your residence card reissued, please notify the International Center as soon as possible. If the university does not have the information on your new residence card, it will cause problems with your residence procedures.
[How to report if your residence card has been reissued] *Please report using any convenient method
