Japanese Literature and Japanese Language Major
Courses covering a wide range of research fields, including Japanese literature, Japanese language, Chinese literature, and Japanese language education, are offered, and detailed instruction is given based on cutting-edge research in each specialized field. In order to respond to today's interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research environment, the school has set up a liberal and flexible group instruction system, rather than a segmented, vertical organization in which students are attached to individual faculty members according to their specialty.

History of Department of Japanese Literature and Language
In 1970, the Master's program Department of Japanese Literature and Language was established, followed by a doctoral program in 1972 (in 1984 they were renamed the Master's and Doctoral programs, respectively), which continue to this day. During this time, while maintaining the solid academic style of a traditional Japanese language and literature research program, it has become a place of learning that reflects the university's free and fresh school spirit, and has produced many talented people as a research program aimed at training advanced specialists and advanced research and education personnel.
