Public and Regional Management Major
Public and Regional Management Major
Until now, economics has mainly tried to consider policies from a dual perspective of the role of the market and the role of the government. However, in today's society, which is becoming more advanced and globalized, the number of problems that cannot be dealt with within the framework of the market and the government is increasing. In order to solve these problems, it is necessary to consider various possibilities for system design, such as not only simply dividing the roles of the market and the government, but also incorporating the management methods of private companies into administrative organizations, conversely, providing incentives to make private profit-making activities public, or revitalizing the role of local communities. It is believed that system design from a perspective that goes beyond the conventional framework is effective for new problems such as the collapse of local government finances, the hollowing out of urban centers, and global environmental problems. With this background, the Department of Public and Regional Economics aims to conduct research and education that emphasizes the perspectives of "public" and "regions and communities" while building on economics. In Department of Public and Regional Economics, we will respond to the need for social innovation and, based on economics, design economic systems that are in line with the times and propose management of governments, regions, and communities in order to realize a new public society. At the same time, we aim to train specialists and researchers who can manage and evaluate, such as "policy planning experts," "regional development experts," and "non-profit organization managers."
