Faculty Characteristics and Career Paths (Faculty of College of Science and Engineering)
FEATURES ?
It is boundless dreams and passion that open up new possibilities. We provide an inspiring learning environment with a view to the world and the future.
The Faculty of College of Science and Engineering has achieved numerous research results that have had a major impact on society, including the discovery of new high-temperature superconductors, and based on these high-level research achievements that have attracted attention from around the world, we aim to further invigorate interdisciplinary research. With a unique organization of seven departments, we have realized a future-oriented curriculum and education and research system that covers not only basic sciences such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry, but also interdisciplinary fields.
The research fields of this faculty are directly linked to issues in a wide range of cutting-edge fields, such as nanotechnology, material creation, and genetic engineering, and hot research is continuing in the laboratories to explore new possibilities. In addition, because the research subjects are diverse interdisciplinary fields, students can acquire the research qualities necessary for cutting-edge technology development through flexible thinking that is not bound by existing academic fields.
We are currently tackling application-oriented research based on solid theory and fundamentals. While you can take a look at the various courses offered by each department and the Graduate Graduate School of Science and Engineering, these can also be viewed through the following 10 themes.
It is expected that these fields will give rise to research that will become the seeds of new academic disciplines and technologies of the future.

Characteristics of the education system, introductory education
The Faculty of College of Science and Engineering is focusing on improving its educational system to effectively bring out the foundations of the faculty and the characteristics of each department. This is supported by an open atmosphere, educational system, and a homely education and research environment where all students, from faculty members and supporting staff, from first-year students to graduate students, can speak on the same level. Our faculty is always working to create a better curriculum, aiming to create a learning environment where everyone has bright eyes and fresh ideas, and where many students can be inspired.
Remedial education is provided immediately before enrollment in mathematics, which is the foundation of all specialized fields. In addition, in order to allow students to acquire a broad perspective on science and engineering through practical experience, all students can learn experiments and practical training in the basic fields of science, engineering, and information processing in their first year. Another feature of the school is that it places emphasis on education through "experience" in the basic fields.
Practical and unique English education
The Faculty of College of Science and Engineering has reformed its English education curriculum with the aim of International Communication for Scientists and Engineers. If students can read English papers, present their research in English, and hold discussions in English, their learning and research fields will be broadened and they will be able to reach a higher level. To achieve this, the compulsory subject "English Core" combines two of each of the skills of "listening," "speaking," "reading," and "writing," allowing students to step up from general English ability "English for General Purpose" in the first year to academic English "English for Academic Purpose" in the second year, and English for Specific Purpose in science and engineering in the second year. Classes are held in active learning CALL classrooms (Computer Assisted Language Learning) with approximately 30 students, and communication skills are thoroughly improved through student-centered class activities. Outside of class, students can study English anytime and anywhere with e-learning. In addition, students can now participate in short-term overseas language training from their first year. The English education curriculum of the Faculty of College of Science and Engineering provides English education for engineers and scientists who can be active globally.
In addition, with the goal of "learning, researching, and presenting results in English," we offer a practical curriculum and an "International Science and Engineering Program" that provides comprehensive support for studying abroad.
Information Education
Computers are an essential tool for learning and research activities. In our department, we have prepared a curriculum that allows students to learn not only computer skills but also programming skills necessary for research and experiments step by step, from the most basic to a practical level, in a way that allows them to acquire these skills without difficulty.
Affiliated institutions that support and expand learning
The university has established three affiliated research centers to strengthen and streamline research activities, as well as a liaison center to promote joint research and commissioned research with local communities and companies.
SYSTEM: A system to support research activities at graduate schools
-
Young Researchers Development Scholarship Program
Full exemption from tuition fees for the standard period of enrollment (3 years).
This is a unique scholarship program unique to our university that provides academic support to talented young people. Its purpose is to revitalize our graduate school and to foster young researchers with advanced expertise and research capabilities who can contribute to society.
Applicants must be under 30 years of age at the time of enrollment and have passed the scholarship selection process (held at the time of the entrance examination). -
Graduate Student Assistant Program
After taking up the position as assistant, he is expected to receive 160,000 yen per month.
As an assistant professor, you will be able to gain research and teaching experience by assisting with classes, and you will receive financial support so that you can focus on your own research activities.
Further detailed regulations are provided in the school's employment regulations.
Those who have completed the enrollment procedures for the doctoral program at this graduate school and have passed a separate selection process for appointment as a graduate assistant. -
International Conference Support System
Support amount: Domestic conference participation: 70,000 yen, International conference participation: 150,000 yen
To support global education and foster young researchers, we provide partial or full support for presentation expenses (including travel expenses) for graduate students presenting their research at international conferences held in Japan or overseas.
After enrolling as a doctoral student, students apply within a set period, and around 20 applications are selected within Graduate School of Science and Engineering. (The number of applications selected varies depending on the year.)
