Kamesaka Seminar
Q: Please give me an overview of the seminar.
A: It is a seminar where you can systematically learn about the financial field and finance. With an emphasis on practical matters, we proceed while watching exchange rate movements and the Nikkei average stock price. In addition, all seminar students participate in the Nikkei STOCK League and aim to win a contest. In this league, university students can participate in specialized topics in addition to the theme.
Since analytical and technical analysis is also required, students will progress through the course while learning the theories of finance required for the university department.
Q: What is the learning process?
A: Groups of 3-5 people enter the contest, each deciding on a theme and writing a report through discussion. First, the students read through the outstanding reports from past STOCK Leagues and, once they understand them, present them to the seminar students. By repeating this process, the team for this year will be decided, and over the remaining time, they will finally take on the real competition. So far, the themes have been diverse, including ESG investment and workation, but there has also been an all-male team that chose the theme of beauty, so we often go out and do field research.
Q: How would you like to use what you have learned in this seminar?
A: Many people say that finance is something they have never been able to imagine before, or that they don't really understand it, but they've always been interested in it. But finance is always new and changing, and you never get bored of it no matter how old you are. Most people who study at Aoyama end up working for a company. Companies are affected by currency movements, finance, and other financial factors, so I think it's also important to have a sense of how much stock prices will move. Like how much risk you should be prepared to take. At least, people who have graduated from my seminar have acquired that kind of sense.
Q: What are your expectations of students? What comments do you have for students?
A: I think that whether or not students are interested in the field of finance varies from student to student. But if you have even the slightest bit of interest, I would like you to come and join my seminar. I especially recommend this to people who want to study stock prices and foreign exchange for the rest of their lives, and to people who want to learn the basics. I think that what you learn in the seminar will be useful for people who are aiming to work in a financial institution or who will be assigned to Financial Affairs Department of a company.
