Educational and Research Objectives and Three Policies (Department of Industraial and Engineering)

POLICY Educational and research objectives, three policies

Educational and research objectives

The Department of Department of Industraial and Engineering aims to develop talented individuals who can flexibly deal with real-world problems, are internationally minded, and have high communication skills, in other words, high-quality engineers and specialists in the fields of production, management, and business management that support industry and companies. To achieve this, we place emphasis on basic theory and practical application, and actively incorporate exercises, experiments, and training into our classes. In addition, in preparation for the rapid advancement of technology and knowledge, we provide education that enhances the ability to acquire new knowledge and technology in related fields through close cooperative relationships with other departments. Furthermore, we actively promote exchanges with academic institutions and companies both in Japan and overseas.

Diploma Policy (Policy for Graduation Certification and Degree Awarding)

■ Knowledge and skills
They have acquired modeling, analysis, and optimization techniques as specialized skills, and English, mathematics, and information technology as basic knowledge. In other words, they have acquired the foundations of practical problem-solving skills that utilize logical thinking, specialized knowledge, and specialized skills.

■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
They have acquired insight and judgment based on logical thinking skills based on basic knowledge, as well as the ability to systematically model and communicate these using mathematical methods.

■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
They have acquired an inquisitive mind that allows them to understand the workings of society and organizations.
They have an interest in difficult problems and aspirations to become engineers who have the management skills to improve the functioning of companies and society, as well as the logical thinking and judgment skills to consider and put into practice the process from system development to actual implementation.

Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)

Through experiments, seminars, lectures and internships, we will develop an educational program that will foster engineers and researchers who have a strong sense of internationality and ethics and who can play a leading role in the international community.
In the first year, the courses focus on basic knowledge, such as English as a communication tool, computer literacy, mathematics as the basis for systems analysis and model building, and information technology as the basis for systems development.
In the second year, students will acquire comprehensive basic academic skills by taking compulsory courses in the fields of analysis, modeling, and optimization technology, which are the most important fields in industrial systems engineering.
In the third year, experimental subjects in industrial systems engineering are placed to provide students with a more practical foundational knowledge, while other specialized subjects are placed to help students achieve the department's educational goal of "mastering specialized knowledge and skills in industrial systems engineering and being able to develop these skills to an advanced level."
In the fourth year, students will conduct graduation research in their respective laboratories as a culmination of this curriculum.

Industrial systems engineering is broadly divided into the fields of analysis, modeling, and optimization. Students themselves must carefully consider their own path and make their own course plans of study at their own will and responsibility.
Analytical Technology Field: Learn techniques to develop data-driven thinking skills.
Modeling Technology Field: Cultivate an objective understanding of the real world.
Optimization Technology Field: Develop effective decision-making skills to achieve goals.
In parallel with the above, we will provide exercises, experiments and practical courses such as experiments on analytical techniques, modelling techniques and optimisation techniques, which will develop the ability to synthesise and solve problems through practice.

In graduation research, students are provided with sufficient guidance while being made aware of real-world issues and problems from the perspective of industrial systems engineering, with the goal of becoming "engineers who can acquire specialized knowledge and skills in industrial systems engineering, develop them to a high level, and demonstrate logical thinking abilities and judgment."

Admission Policy

■ Knowledge and skills
Students have an understanding of foreign languages, mathematics, science, etc., necessary for studying a specialized field, have knowledge equivalent to that of a high school graduate, and are able to communicate in basic English.

■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
This is a level equivalent to graduating from high school, and students will be able to consider things from multiple perspectives and logically, and express and communicate their own thoughts in an easily understandable manner.

■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
After understanding the characteristics of the department, students are interested not only in the specialized field of industrial systems engineering but also in a wide range of academic fields, and are motivated and interested in contributing to society by utilizing their specialized knowledge and skills.
