Educational and research objectives and three policies
We would like to introduce the educational and research objectives, educational policy, and three policies of Aoyama Gakuin University Graduate School Graduate School of Literature Department of French Literature and Language.
Educational and research objectives
Department of French Literature and Language to train individuals who, based on the department philosophy of exploring humanity through literature, have acquired a high level of knowledge in the humanities, cultivated a strong critical spirit, and are thus able to contribute to the advancement of culture as solid members of society. In the Master's program, students will acquire a wide range of skills and knowledge about French language and literature, and develop excellent research abilities, while in the Doctoral program, students will be able to add new knowledge to their specialized fields, contribute to their advancement, and impart profound knowledge to train individuals who can contribute to society.
Three Policies for the Master's Program

Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)
■ Knowledge and skills
- Possesses a broad range of knowledge in the humanities, particularly specialized knowledge of French language and literature.
- Understand the academic procedures necessary to pursue the study of French languages and literatures.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
Students have the ability to independently identify and solve problems in the field of French language and literature, and to compile the results of their research into a master's degree thesis or a specific topic.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
They have a strong desire to give back to society at large the advanced knowledge and skills they have gained through their research into French language and literature. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
■ Knowledge and skills
- Through "basic subjects" and other courses, students will acquire the academic procedures necessary to conduct research in the field of humanities, particularly in the field of French language and literature.
- Through "specialized subjects" and other courses, students will acquire specialized knowledge in the field of humanities, particularly French language and literature, and be exposed to cutting-edge research results.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
Through "specialized subjects" and "research guidance," students will develop the ability to independently discover and solve problems in research fields related to French-speaking languages and literature, and to compile their final results in either Japanese or French in accordance with academic etiquette.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Students will take specialized courses and research guidance based on their individual interests, and will proactively engage in research on French-speaking languages and literature. They will also develop an attitude of constantly questioning the social significance of their research. -
Admission Policy
■ Knowledge and skills

- Have basic knowledge of French literature or French language linguistics.
- Have basic command of a second foreign language (English).
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
Students will be able to express their own ideas in an organized and persuasive manner on fundamental issues in French literature or French language studies.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Students should have an interest in French literature or French language studies and a desire to undertake specialized research.

- Possesses broad-based knowledge in the humanities, and in particular highly specialized knowledge of French language and literature.
- Be familiar with a wide variety of methodologies to deepen the study of French language and literature.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
The candidate has the ability to compile an original and highly academically advanced doctoral thesis that will contribute to the development of research into French language and literature.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
They have a strong desire to give back to society at large the highly specialized knowledge and skills they have acquired through their research into French language and literature. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
■ Knowledge and skills
Through "specialized subjects" and "research guidance," students will acquire the academic procedures necessary to produce original and advanced academic results in the field of research on French-speaking languages and literature.
- Through preparing and writing a doctoral dissertation, students will come into contact with cutting-edge research results and acquire a wide variety of methodologies.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
Through specialized subjects, research guidance, and the preparation and writing of a doctoral dissertation, students will engage in original research in the field of French-speaking language and literature, and acquire the ability to present the results of their research persuasively.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Students will study "specialized subjects" and "research guidance" and independently engage in high-level research on French-speaking languages and literature. They will also develop the ability to constantly question what social significance such highly specialized research can have. -
Admission Policy

- Have acquired advanced skills in using French academically.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of French literature or French language linguistics and understands the academic procedures necessary to conduct research.
- Have basic command of a second foreign language (English).
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
Students will be able to express their own ideas in an organized and persuasive manner on various issues related to French literature or French language studies.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Students have the desire to undertake highly specialized research into French literature or French language linguistics and to compile the results of their research in a doctoral thesis.
