MESSAGE ?

Creating innovation by combining society, people and information

In Society 5.0, a vision promoted by the government, it is expected that advancements in science and technology will lead to increased collaboration across various industries. To apply knowledge from different fields and create unprecedented value, diverse perspectives and knowledge that transcend specialization are essential.

School of Social Informatics fosters the ability to connect various specialized fields and lead to new ideas through learning that integrates the humanities' "social sciences" and "human sciences" with the science's "information science." From an early stage after enrollment, students learn the overview of the three fields in core subjects, and from the second year onward, they gradually deepen their expertise by taking interdisciplinary liaison subjects and area subjects in their specialized fields. Furthermore, through project-based learning (PBL), students explore methods of solving problems in creative collaborative work. The experience of applying acquired knowledge and skills to real-world problems cultivates solid practical abilities. In addition to the faculty's unique English education that is mindful of international activities, statistics and programming courses that cultivate data-driven logical thinking skills are mandatory.

This interdisciplinary approach to learning in our faculty, transcending the boundaries of humanities and sciences, is widely accepted in the industrial sector. Our graduates have forged career paths in a wide range of fields, including information and communication technology, finance, services, wholesale and retail, manufacturing, and many others. We hope that all of you who will be enrolling will come here at Sagamihara Campus to learn about the integration of knowledge across diverse fields and challenge yourselves to create innovations that will brighten the world.

ABOUT USAbout School of Social Informatics

Educational and research objectives

We would like to introduce the educational and research objectives of Aoyama Gakuin University 's School of Social Informatics.

School of Social Informatics aims to foster highly skilled individuals who can integrate humanities, social sciences and information sciences, and who can uncover the problems of modern society from a multifaceted perspective that goes beyond the traditional framework of the humanities and sciences, and who can independently seek to solve these problems. In other words, unlike the traditional fields of human, society and information, which are the subject of traditional specialization, the Faculty of Social and Information Studies focuses on the complex intertwining of these fields, and aims to provide a foundational education common to these three fields, as well as new approaches to problem solving in three new specializations: 1) society and information, 2) society and human, and 3) human and information.

In this faculty, we have established the Society and Information Course, the Society and Human Course, and the Human and Information Course to correspond to these three specialized fields, and we aim to cultivate the following types of talent:
We train people who can elucidate the nature of communication between people and between societies, the design of organizations, effective methods for decision-making and knowledge utilization within organizations, economic activity itself and the problems it brings to human society, human psychology that is directly linked to economic activity, companies and policies and the human elements involved, and the knowledge-based society and its impact on people.
We train students to be able to analyze large amounts of data by making full use of information technology based on theory and practice, and who can explain the "why" that exists within people and society by understanding logical approaches and theoretical backgrounds.

The skills developed here are essential for people who wish to be "salt of the earth and light of the world" and play an active role in any field in today's complex society.
In order to achieve the above objectives, School of Social Informatics will not only strive to deepen its specialized fields in both education and research, but will also undertake initiatives that are mindful of other specialized fields.
