Types of study abroad
Our university's study abroad system can be divided into long-term programs (study abroad at partner universities, study abroad at accredited universities) and short-term programs (overseas language and cultural training, overseas internships). In addition, it is possible to study abroad during a leave of absence, and you can choose a study abroad program that suits your purpose, destination, period, and level.
The 2026 "Study Abroad and International Exchange Orientation" will introduce our university's study abroad programs and international exchange opportunities on campus.
Long-term programs (Affiliated schools, accredited schools, and study abroad during leave of absence)
When studying abroad at partner universities or accredited universities, the period of study abroad is counted towards the period of enrollment at our university, so the credits acquired by taking specialized subjects or foreign language subjects at the overseas university can be recognized as graduation credits at our university. As a result, if the graduation requirements are met, it is possible to graduate in four years depending on the year of study abroad. Candidates for study abroad are selected through document screening and interviews, and then approved by the university.
The partner school study abroad program is an exchange program where students are sent to universities that have signed a student exchange agreement with our university, while the accredited school study abroad program is a program where students who are unable to achieve their study abroad goals through partner school study abroad can select and apply to a university or higher education institution that offers a degree program that matches their study goals, and after obtaining admission, can apply to our university for an accredited school study abroad program. If approved, students can study abroad in a manner similar to that of a partner school study abroad program. In addition, when studying abroad at an accredited school, tuition fees must be paid to both our university and the accredited school.
Short-term Programs
This is a program that allows you to take part in short-term overseas language and cultural training or internships and other work experiences during the summer and spring holidays. The International Center implements a variety of programs in various countries with the aim of improving language skills and international exchange. For information about short-term programs organized by faculties, please contact the office of each faculty.
Study Abroad During Leave of Absence
A leave of absence is a semester or a year's leave of absence to study abroad on your own. Therefore, you must complete the procedures for studying abroad on your own. The procedures for taking a leave of absence must be completed in advance at Academic Affairs Division (Aoyama) or Academic Affairs Division (Sagamihara). Credits earned at the overseas university will not be recognized as credits at this university, and the period of study abroad will not be counted towards the period of enrollment at this university, so you will not be able to graduate in four years. The period of leave of absence is limited to two consecutive years, but in particularly unavoidable cases, it may be approved for up to three consecutive years after deliberation. If you are considering taking a leave of absence to study abroad, be sure to consult in advance with Academic Affairs Division (Aoyama) or Academic Affairs Division (Sagamihara).
