Educational and research objectives and three policies

We would like to introduce the educational and research objectives, educational policy, and three policies of Aoyama Gakuin University School of Graduate School of Education, Psychology and Human Studies Department of Education.

Educational and research objectives

In Department of Education, students study specialized academic subjects based on the educational foundations of the Department of Department of Education College of Education, Psychology and Human Studies Aoyama Gakuin University University, and aim to develop excellent educators, caregivers, and researchers by cultivating deep academic knowledge and research capabilities regarding human society and integrating knowledge of related sciences, including various theories on education. In particular, the Master's Program aims to cultivate research capabilities and the abilities required for occupations that require a high level of expertise, while the Doctoral Program aims to cultivate the research capabilities and qualities required for highly specialized occupations, as well as the rich academic knowledge that serves as the foundation for such occupations, while conducting research activities independently as researchers.

Three Policies for the Master's Program

  • Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)

    ■ Knowledge and skills
    They acquire knowledge of related sciences, including the various theories of education, and gain in-depth academic knowledge and research capabilities regarding human development and human society.

    ■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
    They have acquired the ability to synthesize knowledge from various theories of education as well as related sciences, and to contribute to society as excellent educators, caregivers, and researchers.

    ■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
    As excellent educators, caregivers, and researchers, they have the desire to contribute to society through educational research and practice.

  • Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)

    To foster talent with the practical research capabilities and rich academic knowledge necessary to engage in the wide range of specialized work required by today's society while also engaging in practical research on a variety of people throughout their lifespan, from infants to the elderly, we offer basic subjects on research methods as well as specialized subjects in a wide range of fields, such as educational philosophy, educational history, clinical education of infants and children, school pedagogy, lifelong learning, information management, and Japanese language education, and we also have a research guidance system in place.
    In order to develop research skills, grasp the progress of research, and provide research guidance, we offer basic subjects as well as "Research Guidance I-IV (2 credits per semester, total of 8 credits)." In addition, we require students to submit their master's thesis at the end of the second semester of their first year and at the end of the first semester of their second year as a prerequisite for their thesis submission.

    Those who have the basic attitude to pursue academic research or professional skills and who aim to contribute to society through the advancement of research on education or through their proficiency as professional practitioners based on education and related sciences.

Three Policies for the Doctoral Program

  • Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)

    ■ Knowledge and skills
    They have acquired in-depth knowledge and advanced research capabilities in the field of pedagogy, and are well versed in theories of education and related sciences.

    ■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
    They have acquired the ability to synthesize knowledge from various theories of education and related sciences, and to contribute to society as excellent researchers, educators, and caregivers.
    Students are trained in the research skills necessary for highly specialized professions and the rich academic knowledge that forms the basis of such work.

    ■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
    Able to conduct research activities independently as a researcher and have the desire to contribute to society through educational research and practice.

  • Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)

    Assuming completion of study in the Master's program, we will establish a research guidance system by establishing tiered research guidance subjects divided into specialized fields such as educational philosophy, educational history, early childhood and child clinical education, school pedagogy, lifelong learning, information management, and Japanese language education, and will develop a system to develop human resources with independent research capabilities and practical research abilities that can respond to the highly specialized research topics demanded by today's society.
    In order to foster high-level research skills, to promote research for the acquisition of a degree through presentations and reports of research results at academic conferences and workshops in related fields, and other activities, we will establish "Research Guidance V to X (2 credits per semester, total of 12 credits)" as compulsory subjects. In addition, a presentation meeting for research results will be held every September, and a report will be required as part of research guidance.

  • Admission Policy

    Students who have acquired knowledge and skills in education equivalent to completing a master's or doctoral program at a graduate school, have the ability to independently pursue academic research or specialized skills, and are expected to achieve their respective academic goals by pursuing their studies and research in accordance with the department's curriculum and educational and research guidance system.

    Those who are likely to achieve the goal of this department, which is to train excellent researchers, educators, and caregivers with a high level of expertise.

    Those who have the basic attitude to independently pursue academic research or professional skills, and who aim to actively contribute to society through the advancement of advanced research in pedagogy or related sciences, or through the proficiency as highly specialized practitioners based on such research.
