In 1980, he completed the first two years of his doctoral studies in Western Department of History at the Graduate Graduate School of Literature, Tohoku University.
After working as an assistant professor College of Literature at Tohoku University, a full-time lecturer and assistant professor in Department of History at Aoyama Gakuin University College of Literature, he became a professor in 1999. He then served as Dean College of Literature and Dean of the Graduate Graduate School of Literature in 2016, and Vice President in 2017. In December 2019, he became President of Aoyama Gakuin University.
