[College of Science and Engineering] Professor Miki Hasegawa (Department of Chemistry and Biological Science)'s research on helical rare earth molecules has been published in "Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths"
Professor Miki Hasegawa (College of Science and Engineering Department of Chemistry and Biological Science Science and Engineering) was invited to contribute to Volume 65 of the "Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths" (published by Elsevier), a journal that has been published since 1978. Her research, which includes the design and functional development of luminescent helical rare earth molecules, represents one of the culminations of her work.
Helical molecules were previously considered difficult to design and synthesize due to their stability, but we have succeeded in stabilizing them by meticulously designing the characteristics of the rare earth elements themselves and the shapes of the organic molecules. Furthermore, because they can be formed into thin films while maintaining their structure and have extremely low toxicity to living organisms, we have also discovered strains that exhibit strong luminescence in water.
Furthermore, "Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths" is a series that supports the foundation of materials scientists involved in rare earth research internationally.
