TITLE

Aoyama Gakuin University and Bandai Namco Entertainment have begun a joint research project using games as a model case.

Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and the Institute for Solving Social Problems through Intellectual Properties (SSP-IP), a comprehensive project research institute Aoyama Gakuin University that conducts research aimed at solving social issues using corporate intellectual property, have jointly launched a research project in January 2021 on "the potential of using games to solve social issues," incorporating the academic perspective of the institute. The institute has members who have conducted research and made presentations on esports, and this joint research will be conducted with these members. By combining the research knowledge of the institute with Bandai Namco Entertainment's expertise in entertainment, primarily games, the aim is to conduct practical research and realize a society where all people respect and grow together through games.

Furthermore, this research will focus primarily on themes such as accessibility and political correctness (exploring social issues to promote social inclusion) in game content, and diversity and inclusion (respecting and embracing diversity), with the aim of continuously providing game content that more people can enjoy with peace of mind over the long term. In addition, a startup symposium for this joint research is scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2021.

We conduct research on games that can be enjoyed comfortably by a wider audience.

2. Consideration for political correctness
We explore social issues in order to promote social inclusion.

3. Recommendation of Diversity & Inclusion
This project explores what diversity and inclusion mean in the context of entertainment.


■ Overview of the Startup Symposium on "Research into the Potential of Solving Social Issues Using Games" (Tentative)

This joint research project will hold a startup symposium on Saturday, June 26, 2021. In addition to members of this research institute, Katsuhiro Harada, a joint research member who works on the fighting game series "Tekken" at Bandai Namco Entertainment, will take the stage to discuss the prospects of the research, incorporating the current state and challenges of the game industry. Furthermore, Mr. Harada is scheduled to appear as a guest lecturer in Aoyama Gakuin University public lecture series "Gameful Society: How Should Society Engage with Games?" in September. Through research activities centered on regular discussions, we aim not only to gain insights into content provision at Bandai Namco Entertainment, but also to share these insights with the entire industry, working towards games contributing to solving social issues. The research institute also plans to publish a collection of research papers in the future.
