Fujitsu Japan launches AI-based book search service to encourage students to take initiative in their learning
Maclay Memorial Hall (University Library and Information Media Center), which opened in April 2024. Aoyama Gakuin University (Note 1) and Fujitsu Japan Limited (Note 2) (hereinafter referred to as Fujitsu Japan) have introduced Fujitsu Japan's cloud-based "Fujitsu AI Search Service," which uses AI to find highly relevant books by associating keywords, to the university library, and began operation on July 1, 2025. This is the first time in Japan (Note 3) that this service has been introduced in a university library.
Professor Toshihiko Nozue (College of Education, Psychology and Human Studies) of Aoyama Gakuin University 's "Institute for Innovative Technology and Social Co-creation" and Fujitsu Japan have been conducting joint research since 2019 with the aim of creating new learning support centered on libraries, and in 2023 they jointly developed AI-powered library cataloging technology. The "Fujitsu AI Search Service" is a service developed by Fujitsu Japan based on this AI library cataloging technology and was launched on July 1, 2025.
This service allows users to input everyday words and sentences, even without knowing specific keywords for the book they are looking for. The AI will then understand the user's intent and efficiently find highly relevant books. This will support students' proactive learning and contribute to improving the convenience and increasing use of libraries.

Usage scenarios and features of the "Fujitsu AI Search Service" Overview of Fujitsu AI Exploration Service
Unlike conventional keyword-matching search systems, this service allows users to simply input keywords or sentences related to their learning or research topics, or syllabi (lecture content). The AI interprets the input and presents books in order of relevance. Even if you don't know the appropriate technical terms or search keywords, entering words similar to the book you're looking for will allow the AI to instantly present related books. Furthermore, selecting a book of interest from the results will prompt the AI to present even more related books, making it easy to find the book you want to read. This broadens the entry points to learning and particularly supports the learning of beginners.
Furthermore, if a suitable book cannot be found using the university's conventional library cataloging system (AURORA-OPAC), students will be directed to an AI-powered search service, allowing them to encounter a diverse range of books without interrupting their learning or curiosity.
Usage scenarios and features of the "Fujitsu AI Search Service" Future Plans
By introducing AI-powered search services, our university aims to support students' proactive learning and promote library use. Fujitsu Japan will continue to promote library DX through joint research with Aoyama Gakuin University "Institute for Innovative Technology and Social Co-creation," contributing to the improvement of the quality of university education.
