TITLE

On the 13th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake

We have reached the 13th anniversary of March 11th since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
I would like to express my deepest condolences once again to the victims and offer my heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the disaster.

Looking back over the past 13 years, there have been 31 earthquakes with a seismic intensity of 6 or higher, including the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. We extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake at the beginning of the fiscal year, and we pray for their safety and health, and for a speedy recovery. Furthermore, considering the risks of earthquakes and tsunamis once again, we have been reminded of the importance of disaster prevention measures and preparedness on a daily basis.

The other day, I had the opportunity to meet with the mayor of Shiogama, one of the municipalities that signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement in the wake of the earthquake. Although the scars of the earthquake still remain, we discussed how we can move forward with discussions on how to further cooperation between our university students and the aging population of the region.
Currently, the university's social mission includes not only volunteer activities during the earthquake, support for affected students and prospective students, and assistance during and after the disaster, but also future-oriented initiatives for regional and social collaboration with local governments.

Therefore, we will now engrave March 11th in our hearts and focus on our daily activities, and we have decided to conclude our message of sympathy with this one.

Let's cherish the experiences we've had and move forward together towards the future.

March 11, 2024 President INAZUMI Hiroshige
