"Environmental Humanities" is...
This refers to a movement that brings together the knowledge of the humanities accumulated through research in diverse fields such as culture, history, language, gender, and race, and works to readjust thoughts and values in response to global environmental problems. The "Environmental Humanities Program" is a place to deepen your studies in Department of English and American Literature while confronting the global environmental crisis, which has now become a normal part of life.
What is the "Environmental Humanities Program"?
The "Environmental Humanities Program" aims to cultivate interdisciplinary thinking that can be called environmental humanities. To achieve this, the program facilitates credit transfer between different departments at the Graduate Graduate School of Literature, Aoyama Gakuin University Graduate School (Department of English and American Literature, the Graduate Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Meiji University (Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, Integrated Arts Program), and the Graduate School of Intercultural Communication, Rikkyo University (Department of Intercultural Communication). Courses related to the program are mutually offered.
This will enable students to acquire an interdisciplinary approach to the environment, and aim to cultivate individuals who can "re-examine contemporary and historical specialized research on English-speaking languages and cultures from an environmental perspective, and contribute to social issues surrounding the environment from a literary and linguistic standpoint."
Furthermore, this program, offered at the three graduate schools mentioned above, is the first of its kind in Japan as an educational program in environmental humanities.
