Aoyama Gakuin Global Week: Student staff and participating international students "Global Village" to be held at "AOYAMA GAKUIN GLOBAL WEEK"
From Saturday, September 23 to Saturday, September 30, 2023, Aoyama Gakuin held Aoyama Gakuin Global Week to promote international exchange and multicultural coexistence on campus. During the period, three events were held: the "Global Challenge" where players could try bingo related to Global Week and win prizes, the "Global Menu" where students could taste international cuisine in the school cafeteria, and the "Global Village" where they interacted with international students. Each event was planned and managed by the student staff.
Global Village is an event where you can interact with international students from various countries, and it was held in the courtyard of the Aoyama campus. Focusing on the current situation where there are few opportunities to interact with international students, we have encouraged international exchange among students by providing a place where anyone can easily interact. Since it was held in an open place without walls or doors, such as a classroom, students on the road felt free to stop by and had fun participating.
International students from eight countries (Korea, China, Taiwan, Russia, Mongolia, Australia, France, and Spain) participated in the event and introduced their languages and cultures. The international students made traditional sweets from their own countries, introduced traditional fortune-telling, wore traditional costumes, and talked about the charm of their countries not only through conversation but also through experience.
Aoyama Gakuin Global Week: Student staff and participating international students Comments from participating international students
Comment from ALLEN LLOYD DOUGLAS (from Australia, 3rd year College of Economics)
I thought it was ran very well and provided the exchange students a great opportunity to share their cultures with Aoyama students.
Comment from HUANG ZILAI (from China, 3rd year Faculty of Law)
It was great! Many students from Japanese and other countries came to our booth and learned about Chinese culture, especially the three kingdoms, while playing card games. Even the self-introduction part was so funny that everyone explained the meanings of their names from different cultures, and I made many new friends. A nice day!
Comment from Alexandrine Cosson (from France, 3rd year student School of International Politics, Economics and Communication)
The Global Village was really fun, it gave me a chance to meet a lot of Japanese students, and also some international students who participated in the event, and everybody was super involved!
Comment from Lee Hanna (from South Korea, 3rd year student School of Cultural and Creative Studies):
At first, I was nervous about many things, like whether I could do a good job as a staff member and whether Aogaku students would participate. But all the Japanese students from Aogaku participated happily, and the staff from other countries also showed interest and support, so it was a fun time for me too. The Japanese students were more interested in Korea than I had imagined, and it was a valuable experience to be able to introduce my home country to them with such joy!
Comment from Alex Patrick Labbe Maxime (from France, 3rd year School of Cultural and Creative Studies):
I only participated in the global village but I saw that the global village team was really invested!!! I really liked the global village, it was really fun and I was able to meet some people. It is a really good concept and if there are any other events like that I would really appreciate participating in those.

Comment from student staff leader Tomoaki Takimoto (2nd year student, Department School of International Politics, Economics and Communication Department of International Politics Economics)
The real appeal of Global Village is the opportunity to experience a world different from your everyday life. It allows you to experience something extraordinary within your daily routine, and then, spending time with international students becomes your new normal. I believe it was a fascinating event that served as an entry point to experiencing the vastness of the world. The friendly atmosphere among students and international students was the moment I truly felt the spirit of Aoyama Gakuin Global Week. Next year, I hope to involve even more students and make the event even more exciting.
Comment from the Global Village team
This time, we planned an event where international students introduced their home countries' cultures. We were initially a little nervous because people from various countries and cultures participated, but everyone actively engaged, and we were delighted to see a much more exciting event than we had imagined. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who cooperated.
