TITLE
Certified under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Mathematical Science, Data Science, and AI Certification System (Literacy Level)" in fiscal year 2023.
We have applied for and received certification for our program, "Freshmen's Seminar to Learn the Fundamentals of Data Science," under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Mathematical Science, Data Science, and AI Certification System (Literacy Level)" for fiscal year 2023. (Certification period: until March 31, 2028)
Since the second semester of the 2022 academic year, our university has been offering on-demand courses on the fundamentals of data science as part of the Freshers' Seminar, a university-wide introductory education program for first-year students. This initiative aims to equip students with a basic level of data science literacy. This program has now been recognized for certification.
About the "Freshmen's Seminar to Learn the Fundamentals of Data Science"
■Objectives (Excerpt from syllabus)
In today's world, where various types of data are readily available and opportunities to use them have increased dramatically, being able to use that data to solve various problems in practical work and daily life is an essential task for all students studying at this university. The goal is to acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills of data science necessary for this purpose. In the classes, we will provide a basic explanation of the problem-solving process through data analysis and the knowledge and skills required therein, while also fostering a foundation for students to continue learning with interest about the latest technological trends such as AI, which are expected to develop even further in the future.

In recent years, regardless of whether students are in the humanities or sciences, foundational education in mathematics, data science, and AI has become essential in university education as the "reading, writing, and arithmetic" of the digital society, and there is a societal demand for producing AI talent that can play an active role in various fields. As an introductory data science course necessary for all faculties and departments, this course aims to increase interest in mathematics, data science, and AI, introduce the basic knowledge and skills required to understand and utilize them, and serve as a bridge to more advanced data science courses offered in each faculty.
