环境问题を考える手がかりは文学にある。ソロー、石牟礼道子、梨木香歩、アレクシエーヴィチ、カズオ?イシグロらの作品に、环境をめぐる文学研究=エコクリティシズムの手法で分け入ろう。人间に宿る野性、都市と络みあう自然、惑星を隅々まで学习する础滨──地球と向き合う想像力を掘り起こし、未来を切り开く実践の书。
This book introduces English-speaking audiences to tsūji, who were interpreters in different contexts in Japan and then the Ryukyu Kingdom from the late 16th to the mid-19th century. It comprises seven historical case studies on tsūji in which contributors adopt a context-oriented approach. They aim to explore the function of these interpreters in communication with other cultures in different languages, including Japanese, Dutch, Chinese, Korean, Ryukyuan, English, Russian and Ainu. Each chapter elucidates the tsūji and the surrounding social, political and economic conditions. The book will be of interest to students and scholars of translation and interpreting, but also readers interested in the early modern history of interpreting and cultural exchange. It will similarly appeal to those interested in the Japanese language, but with limited access to books written in Japanese.
This is the first of two volumes of research on discourse particles focusing exclusively on the languages of Asia from the perspective of formal as well as non-formal semantics and pragmatics.

この本は社会言语学についての入門書として企画された。大部分の読者にとって、社会言语学という学問に触れるのは初めてと考え、前提の知識なしに、読めることを目指した。 従来の社会言语学の概説書の多くは、取り上げる対象や分野に偏りがあった。そこで、本書では、社会言语学という学問の全体が論理的に分かるような体系的な枠組みを採用した。この枠組みでは、変異を扱う方向と談話を扱う方向を組み合わせ、かつ地表上に広がる面積の大きさによって配列したので、個々の現象を一定の研究分野に位置づけることができる。

Operationalizing a theory of task-based learning requires a specification of the features of task design that can be manipulated and sequenced during the time-course of instructional language learning programs to promote both performance success (measured in terms of the degree to which tasks can be accomplished in the second language), as well as progress in second language development (measured in terms of progress learners make in the increasing accuracy, complexity and fluency of their language production and comprehension). This chapter describes a theoretically motivated framework for pedagogic task design and sequencing which is currently being implemented and researched to assess the extent to which it facilitates target task success and language development for learners performing sequences of pedagogic tasks following the design criteria it proposes.

Old English Metre offers an essential framework for the critical analysis of metrical structures and interpretations in Old English literature. Jun Terasawa's comprehensive introductory text covers the basics of Old English metre and reviews the current research in the field, emphasizing the interaction between Old English metre and components such as word-formation, word-choice, and grammar. He also covers the metre-related problems of dating, authorship, and the distinction between prose and verse. Each chapter includes exercises and suggestions for further reading. Appendices provide possible answers to the exercises, tips for scanning half-lines, and brief definitions of metrical terms used. Examples in Old English are provided with literal modern English translations, with glosses added in the first three chapters to help beginners. The result is a comprehensive guide that makes important text-critical skills much more readily available to Old English specialists and beginners alike.
